time@work and expense@work consist of a number of software components.
This article summarises those components and the Hardware and Software
Environment required to operate our software.
Standard Components
- MS SQL Server
- Internet Information Services (IIS)
- Windows operating systems
- Internet Explorer
- Crystal Reports
- MS Outlook (if SMTP is not selected for all emailing)
- MS Project (if the MS Project interface has been licensed)
Proprietary Components
- time@work or expense@work Maintenance
- time@work Client
- time@work or expense@work IIS Server application
- time@work or expense@work Task Scheduler
- Database Creation Tool to be used as part of the installation process (DBCreator)
The software environment required for each of these is as follows:
MS SQL Server
Software
- MS SQL 2000 or MS SQL 2005 (time@work and expense@work operate independently of MS SQL Code Page or Sort Order)
- Windows 2003 Server Edition
- Windows XP, or
- Windows Vista
Hardware
- 1GB RAM minimum
- Pentium 4 processor
Notes on MS SQL setup
- Ensure that protocols for Client-Server communication are consistent
- These suggestions are for a minimum configuration. Optimal hardware may depend upon the number of users.

Crystal Reports
- Crystal Reports Version 11
Notes on Crystal
- time@work and expense@work use Crystal runtime components for the creation and publishing of reports. However, for the creation of new report templates (from time@work or expense@work Maintenance) for reports and documents (invoices, timesheets, expense forms, etc.) a copy of Crystal Reports Version 11 is required.
MS Outlook
Notes on MS Outlook
- time@work and expense@work Maintenance create email messages from a number of different functions. If you do not opt (System Parameters table) to use SMTP for this function you will need to install MS Outlook on the PC or server where email messages are generated by time@work or expense@work Maintenance.
- Note that the time@work Client also makes use of Outlook Express or Outlook for the sending of timesheets and expense forms to the central time@work server (see below).
MS Project
- MS Project 2000 or higher
Notes on MS Project
- time@work Maintenance provides an interface to MS Project for the import and export of project plans, tasks and timesheet data. If you are licensed to use this option then you will need to install MS Project on the PC or server where you are using time@work Maintenance.

Notes on Software
- The time@work Client Application accesses the default e-mail client, whichever that is. It is essential that the e-mail client in regular use be set up as the default e-mail client.
